Vestbad - reconstruction of an iconic lido
The architectural gem Vestbad opened in 1958 and has been a popular destination for the inhabitants and visitors in the municipalities of Rødovre and Brøndby ever since. Rødovre’s legendary city architect Børge T. Lorentzen designed Vestbad in close cooperation with the internationally acclaimed garden architect C. Th. Sørensen. Today, Vestbad still stands as a symbol of the 1950’s vision for the welfare society and the ideal of a healthy soul in a healthy body.
Throughout the years, Vestbad has not undergone any sort of renovation apart from general maintenance. Therefore, the lido was intact, though worn, when GHB started working on their proposal for the revitalisation of the facilities. In connection to that, GHB initiated the preservation of Vestbad, which was granted in 2017 with requirements for the reconstruction of the lido. Thus, GHB has reconstructed Vestbad back to its former glory with great respect for the original design and layout. To the west, GHB re-established the park facilities with a sun-slope, where people can relax in private in small “pots”. In addition to that, GHB has recreated the original pavement and the iconic water playground with the colourful water sculpture “The Hen”.
Vestbad is now completed and reopens this spring.
